HSU Installs Olympic Tribute
HSU recently completed a powerful installation at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM): Bridge, a sculpture by Glenn Kaino that honors Olympic gold medalist Tommie Smith’s iconic raised-fist protest for human rights at the 1968 Olympic Games. In anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympics, SAAM unveiled this long-term tribute to Smith’s courage and legacy.
The Bridge spans 100 feet and features 200 gold-painted casts of Smith’s fist in a wave formation. HSU Builders’ experience with intricate installations and large-scale construction was essential to realizing this ambitious exhibit. The installation of Bridge required careful planning and precision to securely suspend the series of gold-painted casts across the museum’s historic Patent Office Building. Working with SAAM’s curatorial team, HSU navigated the technical challenges of creating a visually striking display that would also stand the test of time.
HSU is honored to have played a part in commemorating a moment that continues to inspire change across generations.
