Description:
HSU has been working at the Kennedy Center since 2001. Largely through an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, HSU has delivered numerous projects throughout the facility’s interior and exterior. At all times, HSU is cognizant of the importance of accommodating the safety and access needs of visitors and staff, as well as the performance and practice schedules of the daily activities and special events that take place therein.
Rejuvenation of the Exterior Columns: In 2008, HSU performed an award-winning repeat performance at the Kennedy Center. It won the Washington Contractors Award for its project to restore the 71 gilded columns that surround the exterior of the Kennedy Center. In 2001, HSU was first called upon to develop a process that would repair and rejuvenate the fading columns, while encapsulating the hazardous lead contained in the original paint. Seven years later, after enduring an 8-acre, decade-long expansion of the entire facility, the gilded columns were in much need of another restoration. HSU was called in for the job and received an award from the Associated General Contractors for the project.
