bretton woods clubhouse
Duration: Completed November 1999
Location: Poolesville, MD
Owner: Bretton Woods
Size: 285-acre golf and recreation center
HSU renovated the existing clubhouse and constructed a new addition for the privately-owned Bretton Woods Golf and Recreation Center. This nine-month project consisted of performing a site survey to stakeout the new structure location. Site work was performed, utilities such as power, domestic water, sewer, and electric were obtained by tapping into an existing structure located on the premise.
This 2-story new addition was constructed with CMU block, a new steel superstructure with concrete deck, wood framed roof, and wood siding. Tremendous amounts of glass and elaborate trim moldings were installed, with hurricane rated glass for exterior sliding glass doors.
The structure was constructed on a hill with the main entrance on the second level and the first level consisted of a walk-out to the large outdoor porch area that is utilized for outdoor events and picnics overlooking the golf course. The clubhouse consisted of two dining rooms overlooking the golf course, a banquet facility capable of seating 150 guests, and elaborate and custom millwork and wainscoting throughout the dining room, the bar and the locker rooms.
HSU constructed men’s and women’s locker rooms, showers, bathrooms, fitness room, and wrap around deck; installed a professional high-end kitchen and saunas, renovated administrative offices and the pro-shop. An exterior fire pump was installed to pump water from the nearby pond—the 18th hold obstacle—to the main facility to utilize the sprinkler system. Numerous exterior site improvements were performed throughout the project.
